Important information on recent fake email activity
A number of UK banks have recently been targeted by fraudsters using emails to ask customers to enter their security details into a fake website. These are known as phishing emails.
Phishing involves the use of a fake email and fraudulent website that appears to be from an Internet Service Provider, a bank or a retail outlet, to persuade customers to provide their personal financial details, giving fraudsters access to their online accounts.
Some of the tell-tale signs of a phishing email include:
- A general greeting (e.g. Dear customer)
- Offering fake reasons for inputting personal details (E.g. To verify security details)
- A link to another site that requests personal details
- Incorrect spellings and poor grammar
Here are some simple points to remember to help avoid becoming a victim of phishing:
- A genuine Alliance & Leicester email will always greet customers by their name
- Alliance & Leicester will never email you to ask you to verify your personal or security information
- Alliance & Leicester emails will never link you to Internet banking
How to report a suspicious email:
- If you receive an email claiming to be from Alliance & Leicester that you are suspicious about, please forward it to suspiciousemails@alliance-leicester.co.uk
- If you are worried that someone may already have your personal security details, then please contact us on
